There's a great deal of pathetic fallacy with the lighting. It seems at once chaotic, and calm. which mirror's the character's peace amidst an implied chaos. That these two elements are so blatantly juxtaposed by a vertical split, which split centres the character emphasises this. It thus affords one empathy to the character whose practically inocent expression is so well placed.

plus cinematographers specialize in lighting, so studying how they lit characters in the scene is definitely good for practicing.
